Milda's Refugee Story
This is a story about Milda's childhood. What started out as a happy and normal life in the small country of Lithuania, was turned upside down at the the age of 10. She lost her father and then World War II broke out.
She navigated her way between the three powerful armies of the Allies, the Nazis and the Soviets. She, her mother and two siblings found a way to survive the apocalypse through planning, preparation, luck, timing and faith. Her journey took her from Lithuania, through Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria and to Canada. Six countries and with each, a new set of challenges. She had the unique perspective of seeing the World War II from many different angles.
This is a story about how she made it through the difficult war period and finally landed as an immigrant in Canada.
